Sia Taylor
Sia Taylor has just emailed us a few pictures of her new pieces, that we will present in Paris.
(January 23rd-28th - Showroom Precollection alongside Rainbowave – 24 rue Rene Boulanger 75009 Paris – Contact: Monika Tryburska)
For this rather small but focused collection, the palette is limited to gold , silver and black and he inspiration comes from blades of grass.
Sia, whose studio is set in Ibiza, surrounded by wild plants, flowers and trees, explains that “ walking in the fields here, the grass, the wild flowers and weeds are all dry and waist high, with gone shades of yellow, black, grey and silver” She says she finds an incredible beauty in what we call ‘weeds’, and in the colours they go when they fade and die, adds that so many of these plants are far more beautiful to her when they are dead and faded than when they are alive.
She is interested in the natural patterns the weeds form, from the structure itself to where a shoot will have dense growth in places, gradually fading out to become finer, she adds that she loves the way all the stems move together in the wind and really wanted to translate this in her new collection. Another source of inspiration to her is the simplicity of African jewellery. While travelling for long periods in Africa, she has observed the way plants are often used for adornment, the simple lines of beads worn in Kenya, Ethiopia, Botswana… have always touched her as well as what she calls ” the incredible sense of rhythm brought by the way beads are strung together in coloured blocks, with sometimes lines of alternating beads between blocks of different coloured beads”.
Sia will explore further in her work those ideas with different shapes, colours and forms . We will definitely keep you posted!
