Paula Bianco is the creative name chosen by Israeli designer Smadar-Pola Azriel for her jewellry label. The name was inspired by her much beloved late grandmother, and suitably so as the success of her label seems to have come to her as naturally as she came from her family. Trained initially as an interior designer, it soon became clear that her first love was fashion. After an inspiring trip to New York, she soon began reconstructing old sweaters into unique pieces of clothing. These were an instant success amongst her interior design clients, which quickly compelled her to take the leap and pursue accessories full time.
Her tendency is toward bold statement jewellry: strong in its appearance, refined in its delivery. She works fluidly with a wide range of materials, harnessing each particular visual and textural quality to create unique and wearable pieces. While her approach is playful and modern, it is always grounded in careful contemplation of traditional techniques and history, imbuing each piece with something rare and personal.
